Sat 5 Sep 1829. Page 2 THE HOBART-TOWN COURIER. Meakins had attempted next day to bring a dispatch to Hobart town, but on arriving at a large river (we believe the Huon) which they were swimming across with their clothes tied in bundles behind their heads, they were surprised by some blacks who attacked them by throwing their spears at them and obliged them to retreat leaving their garments behind. They were thus compelled to return a journey of two days through the bush in a state of nudity 1830 - Public Works 1830 - Comprehensive register of convicts. Certificate; 1830/270.
