From Sydney they had passage to Hobart on the Royal George. His young son Patrick had a lucky escape while on the John Bull. ADM 101/38/7/1 1821-1822 Surgeon’s Journal of John Bull: Folio 32: 24 November 1821; About 1pm Patrick Montgomery, a boy relative of a convict going as a free passenger with his mother and brothers to his father a convict at Sydney, accidentally was knocked overboard by the staysail sheet. A boat immediately lowered into which the Captain got and in about 15 minutes returned with the boy who gave signs of returning life. Folio 32: 25 November 1821; On visiting the hospital in the morning I found Patrick Montgomery quite well.
