THE NEWCASTLE COURANT SATURDAY MARCH 19 1803 ISSUE 6597
At Lincoln assizes; Francis Moody and David Johnson
were foung guilty of having stolen a number of fowls
out of the poultry house of John Watkinson, farmer at
South Holme, and were sentenced to be transported 7
years. Edward Tesh and Elizabeth his wife of Gainsborough
were arraigned as accesseries, in recieving and
cooking the stolen poultry, and being also found guilty
were sentenced, the former to be transported for seven
years and the latter to be imprisoned six calendar months.
Moody and Johnson were apparently very respectable
young men and in considerable trust at the iron
foundry at Gainsborough. Moody pretended to payhis
addresses to thew servant girl of Mr Watkinson and by
her assistance and connivance effected the robbing of the
poultry shed with Johnson. With their booty they regaled
a party of young men and women, assembled at the
house of the recievers, Tesh and his wife, after midnight
Mr Watkinsons servant being of the party.
