19/7/1839 Chelmsford Chronicle Essex, England: ESSEX SUMMER ASSIZE THE WEATHERSFIELD BURGLARY.— Joseph Morrell, 32, Samuel Ely, 22, and John Sewell, 19 weavers, were convicted of breaking into the house of Elizabeth Firmin, at Weathersfield.— The Jury returned a verdict of guilty. Morrell was convicted in 1835 of stealing a stack cloth from Robert Williamson, at Baintree. The Judge said that it wa evident they were getting their living by plunder and a desperate course of dishonesty - Transported for life. Joseph Morrell was 33 years old on arrival : Native Place: Braintree, Essex. Joseph was literate, protestant, married with 1 male and 2 female children, 5'5½" tall, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, large intented scar in centre of forehead, scar over outer corner of left eyebrow, small brown spot back of right hand, small mole on upper nd lower left arm, scar outside right leg. Mother: May Father John Brother: William Sisters: Mary, Rebecca - all at native place. Joseph was sent to Norfolk Island. 3/3/1844: Arrived in VDL - Occupation listed as a barber and 37 years old. 1/5/1849: TOL 29/8/1854: CP approved 20/1/1865: Married Elizabeth Bradley, 38, in the home of Joseph Morrell - registered in Deloraine - Joseph was 50 and a widower, Elizabeth was a widow. 26/9/1882: Joseph Morrell died at Deloraine, aged 75, of Old age and Natural decay - listed as a Lodging house keeper.
