Anthony MURPHY was convicted at a Court Martial at Edinburgh, Scotland on 2 May 1843 for striking a Sergeant. 14 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Mount Stuart Elphinstone’ arriving 18 May 1848.
Single man; Roman Catholic; can read & write a little; labourer/tailor; aged 35 yrs; 5’9 3/4” height. 7 years in the 68th Regiment, horse artillary.
Native place of birth: Co. Mayo, Ireland.
