James Murphy was transported for 7 years on convict ship "St Vincent" for the crime of Embezzlement, after being tried at the Sligo assizes on 7 March 1836. He'd held the trusted position of steward on a landowner's estate: "SLIGO ASSIZES - On Monday (ie 7 March) James Murphy pleaded Guilty to an indictment for robbing his master, Michael Keogh, Esq, of Rathmines, near this city [i.e. Sligo] of a sum of 68l while acting in the capacity of steward on an estate of Mr Keogh's, called Geehagne, in the county of Sligo."
