Thomas MURPHY was convicted at Bristol, England 19 Oct 1840 for houserobbery and stealing clothes. Convicted before and bad connections. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "David Clarke" arriving 4 Oct 1841. Aged 19yrs; single man; Protestant; can read & write; confectionist; 5'4 3/4" height; fresh complexion; brown hair; brown eyes. Native place of birth: Bristol, England (ref. convict record) Mother: Mary 3 brothers Colony of VDL: 1 year Probation Period Station Gangs: Rocky Hills and Fingal 21 Feb 1842: at Fingal - failing to report loosing his knife. Reprimanded. 30 Dec 1842: Absent from Muster. 3 days solitary. 18 April 1845: Ticket of Leave granted. 15 Sept 1845: Misconduct in smoking his pipe in his Master's house. To forfeit one pound in wages. 10 Sept 1847: at Hamilton. Drunk. Fined. 19 Oct 1847: Free by servitude 4 Nov 1847: Free Certificate issued.
