SHIP NEWS.—On Wednesday arrived the Catherine transport, Capt. Simmonds, with 97 female prisoners from Ireland; which she received at Cork, and afterwards went to Falmouth for convoy, whence she sailed for this Colony the 8th of last December. Yesterday arrived the Three Bees transport, Capt. Wallace, with 209 male prisoners, also from Ireland, but last from England having sailed in the same convoy with the Catherine, under protection of the Niger and Tagus frigates; which captured, off the Cape de Verde, the Ceres French frigate, rated 36, but carrying 46 guns, after an action of 15 minutes in which the Tagus only was engaged. Lindsay NIMO (NEMO, NEMOS, NIMMS, NIMMO) Sometimes called John NEMO. Lindsay Nimms also known as George Nimms was 24 years old on arrival. Native Place: Dungannon, Tyrone. Lindsay was 5'4½" tall, fair ruddy complexion, sandy hair, hazel eyes. 30/9/1824: COF - In lieu of CF/31/2317. Most likely the brother of Charles Nimmo (Guildford 1816). 17/5/1819: Married Eleanor Brainger (Elizabeth 1818). Lindsay was 35, a labourer and a widower and Eleanor was 32 - married at St. Phillips, Sydney. Daughter Mary Ann born on 2 March 1824 Windsor, NSW. 1825 Muster: Lindsay John Nimo was shown as a landholder at Richmond, from the Three Bees in 1814. 1828 Census: Lindsay and Eleanor were living in Sydney. Lindsay Nimo aged 44 years, who was free by servitude, having arrived on the ship - Three Bees and serving a 7 year sentence. He was listed as a protestant and having an occupation as a sawyer from Erskine Street, Sydney. Eleanor Nimo as 36 years and as also having been a convict from the ship Elizabeth in 1818. She had also served a 7 year sentence and listed as a protestant. Her child Mary Ann, aged 5, was recorded as being born in the Colony. Oct. 1829: Mary Ann died at Sussex Street, Sydney - Lindsay was an oyster dealer. Mary Ann, Lindsay's first recorded child, later died in October 1829 at Sussex Street Sydney. At that time Lindsay was an oyster dealer. 1830: Was a Dealer, Clarence Street, Sydney. 19/1/1842: Eleanor died at Sussex Street, Sydney. Lindsay's wife Eleanor died at Sussex Street on 19 January 1842. 6/7/1842: Lindsay, aged 58, married Catherine McGoveran, aged 23. Within six months of Eleanor Nimo's death, Lindsay, aged 58, married on 6 July 1842 a much younger Catherine McGoveran, aged 23, at St. Andrew's, Sydney. 23/9/1842 Sydney Morning Herald: "NOTICE. CATHERINE NIMO, formerly Catherine M'Garvin (sic), my wife, having absconded from her home, the public are hereby cautioned against harbouring her, or giving her credit, as I will not be answerable for the same. LINDSEY NIMO. September 22." Over the next six years Lindsay and Catherine had four children: John, Elizabeth, Charles and Mary Ann. Charles died as an infant. 17/7/1850: Catherine died, aged 31. 7/10/1850: Lindsay, aged 66, married Martha Mill, a widow, at Scots Church, Sydney. 13/12/1864: Lindsay died, aged 82, at Pyrmont, Sydney. Both Lindsay and Catherine are buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery, Ryde NSW. (Presbyt Section in Grave No. 663) together with their son John. The grave transcription reads: "To the Memory of Catherine Nimo who departed this life 17th July 1850 aged 31 years leaving a husband and 3 children to lament their loss. Also Lindsay Nimo husband of the above who died 13th Dec 1864 aged 82 years. Also John Nimo son of the above who departed this life 23rd June 1920 aged 78 years. Erected by his loving sister M.A. Llewellyn." M.A. Llewellyn was Mary Ann Nimmo, Lindsay's last child.
