Mary O’Neill was convicted at Galway, Ireland on 27 Oct 1846 for Larceny - stealing a cloak. 2nd conviction. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Waverley’ arriving 1847.

Aged 23 yrs; nurse maid; 5’ height; Roman Catholic; fresh complexion; brown hair; blue eyes.
Native place of birth: Galway, Ireland.
Father: Patrick
Sister: Catherine (transported to VDL); Margaret.
Brothers: John (transported); Thomas & Terance.

Service work, ‘Anson’ Hulk.
1848/9: Drunk. 3mths hard labour. Female Factory, Hobart.
2 June 1851: Ticket of Leave granted.
Other notes of misconduct.
6 Dec 1853: Certificate of Freedom, Launceston.

The charge in 1882, recorded as “Catherine McDonnell” may actually refer to her sister Catherine McDonald.

29 May 1883: Idle & disorderly, Deloraine. 2 mths hard labour.
