William Parr was tried at Liverpool, Lancashire on 27 January 1785 for fraud (cheating a shopkeeper). He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years and left England on the Alexander with age unknown. Described as “the noted swindler” by court records.Employed in issuing spirits, on 6 May 1788 he was sentenced to receive 200 lashes after a court of enquiry into a marine having been drunk on duty, and on 12 April 1790 to 100 lashes for stealing a pumpkin.Married Mary McCormack on 10 February 1788, the first marriage recorded in the colony.
