n.b. There was another convict to VDL by this name about the same time. Also the written name at this time in records was "PAFS" or "PAP". William PASS was convicted at Demerary Court Martial (British Guiana) for Mutiny on 16 May 1840. 14yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Lady Raffles' arriving 17 March 1841. Aged 35yrs; single man (although another record states he was married (?); butcher; Protestant; can read & write; 5'9". Native Place: Manchester, England. Has been a soldier - 70th Foot Regiment. WP 275 marked on arm. 18mth Probation Period in the Colony. Assigned to work services. 29 April 1841: Absent without leave. 6 days solitary confinement. Extended 3 days. 26 Dec 1842: A Police Constable in Hobart. Several records of misconduct and punishments. 1 July 1851: Ticket of Leave granted. May 1854: Married Letitia CRAWFORD (transported per the 'Blackfriar') at Fingal, VDL. (Link to her record http://www.convictrecords.com.au/convicts/crawford/letitia/134306 ) A William Pass died (drowned) at Launceston in 1861 however further records would need to be examined to see if it was this person.
