Convict Notes
George was 17 on arrival in VDL. He had been convicted before and imprisoned, Goal Report: Very Bad. George was single, pockpitted face and back of both hands, several moles on left arm, grey eyes, light red hair, 5'1 3/4" tall. George had a bad conduct record, gambling, neglect of duty, stealing razors and a knife and absconding - eventually sent to Port Arthur 16/12/1843. 1/9/1845: Removed from Port Arthur to Prisoners Barracks, Hobart. 27/2/1846: Attempted to strike his overseer with a hammer, 4 months hard labour. Married Nancy Cromie (Waverley) on 8th October 1849. Nancy was born in 1824 and died 9/12/1854 in Hobart. No children listed. 20/4/1855: married Eliza or Elizabeth Espie B1835 in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. They had 10 children. George moved to Melbourne about 1870, the last 2 children were born 1870 Prahran, and 1873 Oak Park or Oakleigh. Eliza died in 1875 and George died in 1892 aged 71 at Scoresby.
