Pidding forged stamps when his business was for a second time threatened with bankruptcy. Sent to Port Macquarie, he did clerical work. On release he became a wine and cordial merchant in Sydney. Thomas Pidding, a surgeon in Gov. Darling's time, was his younger brother.
