At Maidstone on Wednesday last, Thomas Pilbeam, aged 32, by trade a gunmaker, was charged with cutting the throat of Esther Pilbeam, his wife, with intent to murder her. The wife, a young female of genteel appearance, who gave her evidence with great reluctance, said her husband placed his arms about her neck, when he made the incision with a claspknife : witness thought he intended to strangle her. The jury found him guilty, and he was sentenced to be transported for years. Nottingham and Newark Mercury, 30 July 1841.
