Convict Notes

James Pointer was 30 years old on arrival in VDL - he was on of the many "Machine breakers' who were transported. Born at Birchington, Isle of Thanet. He was married with three children (wife Harriet/Hannah on the parish at Birchington). James was 5'5" tall, dark swarthy complexion, dark brown hair and curly whiskers, dark grey eyes. Assigned to William Sharland of New Norfolk on arrival. 1834: Assigned in the Bothwell area, then returned to New Norfolk. July 1835: TOL 3/2/1836: Free Pardon. There is no firm record of James Pointer after he received his free pardon in 1836 and it is probable ath he left the colony and returned home. **There was a marriage for a James Pointer to Eliza Eason at Hobart in Feb, 1843 but this is believed not to be the above James Pointer.
