The following prisoners were tried, and received sentence of death;… Jacob Ponting, for stealing two wether sheep, the property of George Jefferies, at Swindon; ... Of the ten prisoners who received sentence of death at our assizes, the whole have been reprieved, excepting John Lawes, convicted of burglary, who is left for execution on Tuesday the 4th of August. Jacob PONTING was convicted at the Wiltshire Assizes on 18 July 1818. Life Sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Hibernia' arriving 1819. Hulk Report: "good'. Captain's report: "good". Clear Conduct record in the Colony. 15 Nov 1826: Ticket of Leave granted (ref. Hobart Town Gazette 18 Nov 1826) Jacob Ponting per 'Hibernia'. 24 Aug 1831: Conditional Pardon, no. 266, approved.
