Windsor Court House, 16 February 1822. Sir, A person resident in this Town of the name of Daniel Brown, a bricklayer, has requested me to apply to endeavour to obtain Richard Potter, a prisoner now working in Woodcocks Gang near Campbell Town to be assigned to him as his Government servant, Potter being brother to Brown’s wife, and as Brown is an industrious man, with a family of four children and well able to maintain this man, I was induced to make application to the Rev. Mr Reddall that as that gentleman has … Macquarie Field, Feb 10 1822. Sir, In reply to your favor of the 2nd inst, I beg leave to state that , as the Road Gangs are sent to their respective stations , on a public duty, I have never thought myself at liberty to remove a man from these Gangs, except charged before me with some offence which justified the expedient. As however, I was on a boat visiting Sydney a day or two after the receipt of your letter, and anxious to accommodate your wishes, through a regular channel, I requested an order at the Colonial Secretary’s Office for the removal of the man (Potter) to your station. As however the name of the …. I am directed by H.E. J. J. B. to request that the service of Richard Potter, a convict with Woodcocks gang in your district may be assigned to Daniel Brown, a bricklayer, at Windsor. -------------------------------------------------------------- NSW 1828 Census Index. Surrey Assizes: On Wednesday, March 18 1807 at Kingston, The Right Hon. the Lord Chief Baron and Mr. Justice Heath came in from Horsham and were met by James Newsome Esq, the High Sheriff at the entrance to the town and escorted to the Court House. Richard Potter, charged with burglaries, by breaking and entering the dwelling house of Henry Brown at Epsom, and stealing there, from the Bank of England Notes and money. He was found guilty and sentenced to transportation for life. This article was from Morning Post, London England, dated 20 March 1807.

Tried at Surrey Assizes 18 March 1807, sentenced to transportation for life. In 1817 was on a list of prisoners to be sent to Newcastle. In 1822 employed in Stephen Woodcock's road party near Campbelltown. Requested to be assigned to his brother-in-law Daniel Brown. Employed by Brown by 1825. In 1831 his ticket of leave was cancelled for drunkenness indecent conduct and making away with his employer's property. He died on 7 January 1842 and is buried in the Brown family plot at St Matthew's Anglican cemetery at Windsor NSW.
