Patrick POWER was convicted at Cork on 3 Jan 1848 for assault - hitting another man. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ‘Hyderabad’ arriving 26 Aug 1849. Conduct good.

Single man; farm labourer; aged 23yrs; 5’4”; can read & write a little; Roman Catholic.
Native place - Co. Cork, Ireland.
Brothers: William, Roger & .....
Sisters: Mary & Jane - all at native place

Given a Ticket of Leave upon arrival, in Colony.
1850: Misconduct, in allowing a prisoner of whom he was in charge, communicate with a female person. 1 mth imprisonment with hard labour.
26 Mar 1850: Ticket of Leave revoked as he was absent from Muster.
10 June 1851: Ticket of Leave restored.

1853: Application for permission to marry - to Margaret Connors (transported per the ‘Blackfriar’). Approved.

11 April 1853: Married to Margaret Connors, Church of St. Joseph, Hobart. (ref. 37/1/12 698)

1854: Wife Margaret died, in childbirth. (Baby thought not to have survived.)

22 Mar 1856: A Patrick Power was accidentally killed by a falling tree. Hobart district. Aged 27yrs, labourer.  (There were only 3 or 4 Patrick Power’s in the area at the time, so may have been this Patrick ?)
