On Saturday last, Francis and Cornelius Prouting, were committed by the Bench of Magistracy, the Swan Inn, to bridewell, a charge sealing cordage, from a sloop,  at Sidlesham Mill quay, belonging to Messrs. Detidy, and were convicted at the Genera! Quarter Sessions  at Petworth, of the same, and sentenced each to seven transportation.  Hampshire Chronicle, 21 Jan 1822.

Tasmanian Records. Conduct Record. https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Digital/CON31-1-34/CON31-1-34P113 No. 313 Cornelius Prouten, tried 14 Dec 1822, 7 years. Transported for Grand Larceny. Gaol report, I have heard a very bad character of him. I am desired to say it is the Magistrate’s wish that he should be sent out of the country by the first ship. Hulk report, Orderly. Single. Stated this offence: Stealing rope, once before for stealing wood., 2 months. F & M at Piggham Point, a fish man, B. Francis, 314/7. See record for details.
