Mr. Blakenv—lndeed acquaintance issolnrge, that I don’t choose to enlarge it, particularly with fellows of your sort.  Witness—-I’m just the same way (loud laughter), Catherine Nelson—(This witness refused to speak English   but the Governor of the gaol, and others stated that she could speak it very well) Is servant maid to last witness—  Court-—Oh, you speak beautiful English, and it much prettier than Irish. Witness stated that some people came to the house on the night in question—it was bolted as usual, and they forced it in—-witness identified the prisoner as being one of the party. William Fergus was in the house that night also—swears the prisoner was one of the party they wanted to roast him on the fire, saw the man afterwards the jail; they passed as quick as possible the glass window three or four times, and did not know him ; saw Scott, the turnkey there. Mr. Blakeney—Yes, there he is, and much better-looking man than you—though he is a little pockmarked—(laughter)—when witness was let into the gaol-yard, he hesitated a moment, and then knew him. Charles Walsh, policeman, was out for the prisoner for two or three months ; (took) him to the police barrack  and the prosecutor knew him. Mr. Rogers, governor of the jail, stated, that accompanied Wm. Fergus to identify the prisoner ; witness had a full opportunity of seeing the man through the visiting window.
