JAMES REEVES, Theft > simple larceny, 25th October 1827. 2169. JAMES REEVES was indicted for stealing, on the 24th of September , 1 hat, value 2s. , the goods of Thomas Burchett , PETER MATTHEWS . I am an undertaker, and live in Paddington-street , opposite Mr. Burchett. I was watching the prisoner for a quarter of an hour, on the 24th of September, and saw him take this hat from Burchett's door, and walk deliberately away with it; I pursued him- he dropped it, and ran; he dodged me; I caught him, and brought him back. THOMAS BURCHETT. This is my hat - it was at my door for sale. JAMES GIBBS . I am an officer, and took him in charge. Prisoner's Defence. In looking for work, I saw it outside the door, and took it.
