Convict Notes

Around 1820, Rose started living with James Betts (Convict, Albermarle, 1791). I have been unable to ascertain if there were any children to this union. They are recorded together in the 1828 Census: Page 318... Riley, Rose, 60, FS, Britannia, 1797, 7 years, Catholic, Servant to Jas Bell (Betts?) of Airds. Page 49... Betts, James, 63, CP, Albermarle, 1791, Life, Labourer at Airds.

In the colony, Rose lived with John Vardy (Convict, Queen, 1791) from around 1798. They had two sons; John, 1801 and Thomas 1803. Rose is mentioned in the 1806 Muster [Ref AD210] Britannia, Rose Reilly at Seven Hills with W Ward, Settler. and also [AC087] Rose Reilly, Britannia, at Parramatta with J Ward. ### Vary was often written as Ward!! In 1811, John Vardy died and Rose was by herself for some time. In the 1814 Muster she is recorded [1709] Rose Riley, Britannia, Off Stores, 1 child On Stores, 1 child Off Stores, Widow.
