John Richards had a brother called Henry (1816-1892) another carpet weaver from Kidderminster who was my ggg grandfather. I am part of the English line of descendants from Henry but am interested in contacting any of my distant cousins in Australia who are related to John Richards. I have several documents and photos relating to John and will post details in due course.

I believe his description was 5 foot 2inches and could possible have had reddish coloured hair. I am his ancestor. His high grand daughter.Simone Bowles. He is buried near train line at moree new. His wife my high grandmother Caroline Carr became first aboriginal land owner and I believe has a street named after her. John, became a well to do cattle owner at Notre.

If this is the same John Richards, this is my gg grandfather. He came over for stealing scissors as he was a textile weaver from Kidderminster, England. His 1st master was JB Bettington,of Wyndradine county(Bathurst, Orange,Dubbo, Wellington. 2nd master was J.McDonald covering the New England areas, (Singleton, Musswellbrook, Scone, Aberdeen, Werri creek, Tamworth, and Armidale. John received his ticket of leave 36/1036 16th of May.T.of freedom 39/396 16th of March 1839. He was one of the signatrees for Moree to open as an Agricultural land. Before this, he fathered two children, John jnr, and Thomas Richards before he married an Aboriginal woman Caroline Carr born approx 1842. There was a 30yr age difference. There are many Carr black's around the Dubbo/Wellington areas. The Aboriginal people from these lands were given the name of Carr. He had ownership over all of them. There were two Carr men in the areas of this time frame when John Richards was working as a convict. Francis Carr and an Alfred A Carr. They were married 19th of March 1872 in the district of Warialda. His third son Henry Richards was born the day after. All told they had 7 children and lived on 'Bengerang'outside Moree along the Moppin road. I have more information of his Aboriginal/English children and their marriages.
