Catherine Rose was transported on the Margaret, departing 1st Sep 1838 and arriving 5th Jan 1839 with 170 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

Convict Notes
The Convict Indentures state that Catherine Rose was 28 years old. She could neither read or write; religion Roman Catholic; status married with one daughter and a native of County Wexford. She was a house servant. Catherine was convicted at Dublin City on 5 June 1838 for shop lifting and sentenced to 7 years. She had two prior convictions for which she served 6 months and 6 months. Physical attributes; Height 5 feet 0 inches; complexion fair ruddy and a little freckled; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 54. Prisoner number 53/39. Received Certificate of freedom in 1845 (number 45/764). Comment on her indenture entry was that her husband James Rose per Elphinstone in 1838.
