Edouard Rose, age 21, Trade, Cook and House servant. Tried Port Louis Assizes, 27 June 1840, 14 years. Native place, Mauritius. Singles. Catholic. Transported for theft. Stated this offence, Stealing wine from his master’s cellar. Per Ship Eleanor, 23 April 1841. Remarks: Mother Frances at N.P. See record for full details. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Edward Rose, a native of the Isle of France, was fined 5s. for being drunk. The poor fellow had directions from his master, Mr. Synnott, to come to Hobart Town to procure some supplies; and on getting off the coach, he placed his bundle on the ground, when it was immediately whipped away by some "ladies," who were extremely polite to the prisoner; he, therefore, got "wild," as he said, and talked very loud and angrily, but he was not drunk, so he avowed: it was proved, however, that he was, and he was fined accordingly.
