Born: Bedford, leigh, Lancashire, England. Married Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hunter, 21/05/1786. Tried at Lancaster, 1817, with his son James, for stealing cloth. Both transported to NSW, 1818, on the convict ship ‘Tottenham’. He wife never joined him in the colonies.

It would appear that Joseph stayed with his son in the colony. He can be located with the family in 1828.
