CO 280/196 folio 348A lists a "George Rendalls", per the Maitland, dying on 1844-05-14. Tried at "Wils... ass.", sentenced to life. Many other last name misspellings in the same CO despatch, almost certain Rendalls is Ruddle.

Taunton Courier, and Western Advertiser Somerset, England 29 Jun 1842: MURDEROUS ASSAULT.__On Sunday morning last at 2 o'clock, a constable of the Wilts Police, named Stockham, caught a man named Ruddle, cutting cabbages in the garden of Mr. Culliford, Milborne farm, near Chippenham. Ruddle on being asked what he wanted there, instantly sprang at Stockham and stabbed him in the lower part of the back with a large clasp-knife. Stockham then fastened round the fellow's middle; but they both fell to the ground, the policeman under. While on the ground the villain stabbed him in the neck in 5 different places; and then asked him to let him go! This, Stockham bravely refused to do, but was at length exhausted from loss of blood __ perceiving which Ruddle knelt upon him and stabbed him again in the neck, which would have killed him but for his leather stock. By this time Mason, another constable, came and attempted to take the fellow into custody, who then tried to stab him, and the policemen were obliged to knock him down several times before they could secure him. He is committed for trial. Stockham is in a very dangerous state. Reading Mercury Berkshire, England 20 Aug 1842: ASSIZE INTELLIGENCE George Ruddle, for cutting and wounding Jas.
