Prisoner name: William Russell, aged 20. Court and Date of Trial: Worcester Quarter Sessions, October 1839. Crime: Robbery of money from Thomas Howell, together with Edward Bishop. Initial sentence: 10 years transportation. Gaoler's Report: Character etc not known. In prison before for trespass. On board Ganymede then Warrior hulks, Woolwich. Outcome: Nil. Petitions and letters: Two petitions from Thomas Russell, tailor, the first also from Ann Russell, his wife, of Barton Street, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, the prisoner's parents, pleading the prisoner's ill health (liver disease and asthma), certified by a surgeon, his being led astray by others and being his first offence, with covering letter pointing out the bad character of the prosecutor; the second being undersigned by William Holder, tailor, the prisoner's employer, and 37 inhabitants of Tewkesbury, with covering letters.
