Almorah 1. We have further to announce the arrival on Sunday morning, the 29th instant, of the ship Almorah, with 180 male prisoners, all in excellent health, consequent upon their good treatment upon the passage; she lost not a man. — This vessel sailed from the Downs the 28th of April, arrived at Rio de Janeiro the 15th of June, and sailed on the 23rd; Sydney Gazette, 30 Aug 1817. Almorah 2. Yesterday arrived from Ireland,- the ship Almorah; Captain Winter. She sailed from the Cove of Cork the 22d of August last, and brings 160 male prisoners, all in good health. Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Alexander, R. N. The guard consists of a party of 30 men belonging to the 1st Regiment of Foot (Royals), under orders of Ensign Bruce. Sydney Gazette, 23 Dec 1820. Almorah 3. On Friday last, arrrived from Ireland, with 108 female prisoners, the ship Almorah, Captain Boyd. She sailed from Cork the 6th of April; reached no where: and, independent of the female prisoners, brings 15 free women, and 50 children. One prisoner, and one child, died on the passage. MARY RYAN was convicted at Limerick in March 1823 and given a sentence of 7 years Limerick Chronicle 15th March 1823: "City Criminal Court - Friday 14th March "Patrick Molony, Mary Ryan, and Margaret Reeves for stealing sheep near Roxburgh, Guilty. to be transported for seven years." Margaret Reeves was aged 60 and arrived with Mary on the "Almorah" however Patrick Molony did not appear to arrive. Mary Ryan - “Almorah’ arrived 1824. AGED 40 years. Born Galway 5ft 11Inches. Tried Galway 1825 T Hurley TL employed by Mr Small at Kissing Point 1828 -T Hurley Lived at Field of Mars, settler, aged 50 Catholic. 1828 Census - Aged 45 Catholic 14 years. Wife of Thomas Hurley at Field of Mars Servant: Michael Shea, Free by Serv, per Prince Regent in 1820, aged 41, Catholic Certificate of Freedom 30/617 dated 1 Sept 1830:- * Year of birth - 1784 (consistent with ages given) * 5ft 3.5 inches. pale freckled complexion dark brown hair, blue eyes. * Little finger of both hands contracted. Lame of Right leg Wife of Thomas Hurley per Mary (1) Free. Had a ticket of Leave no 29/5959 dated 5 August 1829. * Says Ten year sentence (not correct lest no Cert of freedom due yet)
