Family connections for Henry (Samuels) are: SAMUELS Henry (Samuels) was born about 1805 perhaps in London & became an errand boy. He worked from time to time for John (Lowther) a broker. He was tried for stealing, on 4 11 1819, 2sheets being bleached of John (Norton), at Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 12 2 1821 after a voyage of 4months on PRINCE OF ORANGE; he was 5'4½" dark ruddy complexion brown hair grey eyes. He married Hannah Hutchin/gs/(Hitchi/ens her second marriage) on 12 9 1836 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom no.27/504 at some time & Ticket of Leave no.297/2771 on 28 11 1832. He died in 1849 age44 & was buried at St Stephens Church Newtown with his wife.] [Some details taken from this Website] Hannah (Hutchin/gs/Hitchi/ens) was born about 1803 & became a housemaid. She was tried w/1other for stealing, on 20 5 1823, poplin cloth of Miles (Metcalf) of St Andrews Holborn at Old Bailey on 29 6 1823, sentenced to death reprieved to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 5 4 1824 after a voyage of 4.5months on BROTHERS; 5'0" pale with pock pitted complexion brown hair light blue eyes. [She is differently described in an alternative occupation, place of trial, religion, personal description on this Website & as recorded on the voyage as loose but quiet; & also as one of the women with illness 'Synocha Mites'] On 3 6 1825 while ssigned to Mrs (Drummond) of Liverpool she was sentenced to 6months at House of Correction Parramatta by Liverpool Police Court & to return to Mrs Drummond on completion of her sentence. She married firstly Thomas (Benton his second marriage) on 15 3 1826 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced at least 3children. She was issued her Ticket of Leave in 1829. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom in 1838. She died about 1864 age about61 mother of 8children & was buried at St Stephens Church Newtown with her husband. Hannah married Thomas Benson also listed as Benton (Ocean 1823) who died in August, 1832, aged 35, in the Lunatic Asylum, Liverpool. HENRY SAMUELS, Theft > grand larceny, 1st December 1819. 151. HENRY SAMUELS was indicted for stealing, on the 4th of November , two sheets, value 7 s. , the goods of John Norton . JOHN LOWTHER . I am a broker; John Norton lodged with me - this sheet was bleaching. The prisoner was in the habit of doing jobs for me. RICHARD COATES . I am an officer. On the 4th of November, between six and seven o'clock in the evening, I was in the Edgware-road, and saw the prisoner coming along with a bundle under his arm - knowing him, I suspected it did not belong to him. When he came near me I turned round, and looked him full in the face. Immediately he saw me he threw the bundle down, and ran off, but I followed him about a hundred yards and took him. He said he was going to take them to the mangle. I took him to the watch-house, and found they belonged to Norton of the Harrow-road. (Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner's Defence. I picked them up at the prosetor's house, and was taking them to him. GUILTY . Aged 18. Transported for Seven Years .
