Michael Dean Sannders (my 4th great grandfather) was a gypsy. His wife was Elizabeth Draper, and he was stepfather to her five children (Elizabeth's first husband, Abraham Light, had been transported to Australia for life in 1816) as well as having two sons of his own with Elizabeth. He was convicted of stealing meat at the Exeter Quarter Sessions on 31 December, 1844. On the 'Theresa' he was part of the 'probation gang'. He worked for B. Berthon at Cross Marsh, Tasmania. On 20 March 1849 he was granted a Ticket of Leave, but didn't take it up. He was released on 2 January, 1852, and returned to his family in England. He died on 17 August, 1892, in Wincanton, Somerset, England.
