Peter Scallion was 20 years old when transported to NSW. Peter was single and his native place was Wexford. 8/5/1839: Shot and killed Andrew Shanley(Eliza 1827) at Sutton Forest on 8/5/1839, he died the next day. Andrew Shanley was on his way to the Maneroo with a bullock dray and Joseph Saunders was the driver. At night, the dray was visited by the prisoner and 5 other men (Richard Jones alias Knight, Samuel Ellis, James Hickey, William Barnes and George Carey/or Curry. They all had blackened faces, they shot Shanley and robbed the dray of property of considerable value. 26/11/1839: Peter Scallion, Joseph Saunders and George Carey/Curry were all executed. The other were reprieved, Samuel Ellis (John Barry 1835) to Norfolk Island and VDL, also William Barnes (Recovery 1836).
