Description Place of birth hampstead road. Gender male. Hair brown (brown, bro). Eyes hazel (d hazl). Distinguishing marks scar (scar upper lip under nose ship at anchor left arm man woman love & several letters on right). Has tattoo yes. Tattoo subjects naval. Tattoo descriptions woman, anchor, ship, man, letters. Tattoo body locations arm. First recorded 1821.

William Sears was tried and convicted at London 11/04/1821 for Fraud (having forged notes in his possession). 14 yr transportation sentence. Transported on the 'Lord Hungerford', voyage 19. Ship's Master: Michael O'Brien. Ship's Surgeon: Michael Dorke. Arrived Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) on 26/12/1821. 228 male prisoners on board - all landed (no deaths). Aged 19yrs; labourer & ostler (groom/stableman); Hazel eyes; brown hair; 5'5 1/2"; scar under nose; tatoos. Native Place: Hampstead Road, London. 2 brothers: work at coal wharf (Pocks & White Friars) Van Diemens Land: Police no. 388S Convict no. 62905 23/01/1823: Riding in a cart without a licence - Fined 10/-. 30/04/1829: Assault Charles McLaughlan - charge dismissed. 1830: assigned to Mr. Jamieson 1832: assigned to Mr. Townsend 1833: Ticket of Leave granted 05/09/1833: TL/found in a hut in company with a farm servant of W. Walker Esq. - case discharged, no prosecution. 11/04/1835: Free, by servitude. (ref. Convict Conduct Record & Hobart Town Courier 03/04/1835) No reference to any request for permission to marry or a Colonial Family record in VDL (Tasmanian Archives). 13/12/1847: Departed Launceston on the brig 'Raven' for Port Phillip, Victoria.
