James Settree was 31 years old (according to the Old Bailey Records) when he was sentenced to death, along with Charles Wheeler and Edward Drouet alias Wakingshaw, who were also sentenced to death. James was a slaughtering butcher and seems to have got caught up in this crime. Policeman John Hutt, sait that Settree had been lead into this error, I have known him many years, I believe his is an honest man. 17/9/1817: (Colonial Secretary) James Settree - Butcher in the Government slaughter house. Jame's wife Ann and 2 sons, James and Joseph were free immigrants on the Lord Melville 1817. 2 sons, Robert and Alfred were born in the Colony. Ann Settree married Frederick William Reece in 1830.




James Settree's wife, Ann (nee Morrow), was able to join her husband in Australia, along with their 2 eldest children, James Robert Settree and Joseph Settree.
