James Shalvey is listed as being born in 1798 and 21 years old on arrival in NSW, then born 1793 and 25 years old on arrival in VDL
16/9/1819: James arrived in VDL - James was 5’5 1/2” tall, brown hair, grey eyes, much freckled.
1830 Muster: Field Police
1832-35 Musters: Public Works.
5/4/1833: Tried for Stealing a handkerchief, value 3/- the property of Elizabeth Black - no outcome found.
8/9/1835 Colonial Times, Hobart:
James Shalvey was ordered two years hard labour, for making away with money he had received on his master’s account.
8/1/1839 Colonial Times, Hobart:
James Shalvey was remanded to Port Arthur for trial, from which place he had absconded.
11/1/1839: The Hobart Town Courier:
James Shalvey ordered to Port Arthur for two years, having absconded from this
colony 12 months back, and apprehended at Sydney.
26/1/1844: Recommended for a CP
5/4/1845: CP approved.
