Old Bailey online 1275. SOLOMAN SIMPSON was indicted for stealing, on the 1st of August , one shawl, value 2s., the goods of Esther Cook from her person . ESTHER COOK . I am a servant out of place. On the 25th of July, I was going home, about eleven o'clock at night, opposite Whitechapel church, I heard somebody behind me, the prisoner came up and snatched my shawl off; I turned round, and saw it in his hand, I called out, he ran away, but I caught him before he was out of my sight. RICHARD PLUNKETT . I am constable of the night. I was standing at the corner of the church, and heard the cry of watch, I saw the prisoner running, and the prosecutrix pursuing within two yards of him, she secured him and charged him with the robbery - He denied it. Prisoner's Defence. It was not me. GUILTY . Aged 19. Transported for Seven Years . Third Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Common Sergeant.
