Family connections for George (Smith) are: Some amendments added Oct 2025. SMITH George (Smith) was born about 1777/97 & became an accountant. He was a bookkeeper at Birmingham Warwickshire when he was tried for possessing blank forged bank notes at Warwick Assizes on 10 8 1805, sentenced to 14/7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 12 7 1806 after a voyage of 6.5months on FORTUNE; he was 5'6" fair complexion light brown hair hazel eyes. He was moved to Hawkesbury district in 1808. His sentence expired on 10 8 1812. He was emancipist clerk for Bench of Magistrates when he married Elizabeth (Robinson age16) on 19 10 1813 at St Matthews CofE Windsor-Hawkesbury chapel. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom on 3 1 1814. on 10 9 1818 he was to receive land grant. He was recorded in 1821 as a farmer, in 1822 as a settler & in 1824 & 1826 as a publican. He was recorded as a victualler when he died on 12 12 1826 age45/9 at Windsor as emancipist & was buried at St Matthews CofE Windsor. On 18 10 1809 she may have been granted 80acres at Upper Nelson with her father. She was recorded in 1828 with her children as Innkeeper at Windsor. She died on 12 5 1859 age64-. She died on 2 9 1841 age26-. 2.Eliza (Smith) was born on 19 8 1816 at Windsor & baptised on 17 5 1818 age21m w/Henry Alexander at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She died on 28/31 3 1819 age2 at Windsor & was buried at St Matthews CofE Windsor. 3.Henry Alexander (Smith) was born on 4 4 1818 at Windsor & baptised on 17 5 1818 w/Eliza at St Matthews CofE Windsor. He was recorded in 1828 with his mother at Windsor. He died on 13 2 1874 age55. 4.Harriet (Smith) was born on 16 8 1820 at Windsor & baptised on 22 4 1821 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. Elizabeth did not remarry and spent the rest of her life raising her family. She ran an Inn at Windsor. Elizabeth died in 1859. The family can be located (without Edward) in the 1828 Census. George married Elizabeth Robinson, 19th October 1813. Elizabeth Robinson a spinster, daughter of Edward Robinson of Wilberforce was married to George Smith of Windsor, clerk to the Magistrate there, by Rev. Robert Cartwright at Windsor on 19 Oct 1813, a licence having been obtained 14 Oct 1813. Elizabeth's father was Edward Robinson (Third Fleet Convict, 1791, "Admiral Barrington") and her mother Mary Harrison (Third Fleet Convict, 1791, "Mary Ann"). The couple (George and Elizabeth) had 7 children between 1815 and 1825. George unfortunately died in December 1826.




George was a Bookeeper in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. He was 5' & 8" tall with a fair complexion, light brown hair and hazel eyes (AO NSW COD 18 page 376 no 3/1290). On 10 Aug 1805 at Warwick Assizes England, George was sentenced to seven years transportation and he left England on on 28 January 1806 aboard the ship "Fortune" arriving in Australia on 12 July 1806. Although a convict, he was a clerk to the Bench Of Magistrates in Windsor at the time of his marriage by special licence at the Hawkesbury Chapel. He was a resident of the Windsor district since 1808 until his death and on Colonial Secretary's Papers dated 10 Sep 1818 was on list of person to receive grants of land in 1818. His sentence expired on 10 Aug 1812 and his Certificate of Emancipation was dated 3 Jan 1814.
