William was born in Staines, London, England and died in Cobden, Victoria, Australia.  He married Bridget Mahoney on the 7th Dec 1843 at St James Church, Melbourne, Australia. They had eight children and lived in various locations on western Victoria where William worked on the sheep stations. They then settled in Camperdown and later at Jancourt near Cobden where William lived after his retirement.  Bridget died 7 Mar 1878 at Jancourt.

William could read, was protestant, single, 5’7” tall, ruddy and freckled complexion, sandy hair, grey eyes, scar inside tip of fourth finger of right hand, scar back of middle finger of same, two scars back of left thumb.
