John Spencer, charged Mr. Merryweather, keeper of the castle, with being at large before the expiration of his sentence of seven years' transportation: he is a native of Potterhanworth, near Lincoln, was convicted at Sleaford sessions the 17th January, 1822, of felony, was delivered on board the Ganymede, Chatham, the 6th April, 1822, and made his escape thence the 9th Jan. 1824: he has been a farmer's servant at Holton since, and was brought to the castle on Monday last on two charges of bastardy, which led to his being identified and again committed as a felon. Stamford Mercury, 3 Feb 1826. Feloniously returning from Transportation. John Spencer, aged 31, charged with being at large in the parish of St. Mary Magdalene, in the bail of Lincoln, before the expiration of his term of transportation, pleaded guilty - Transportation for life.
