In March 1838 at the High Court of Justiciary, Mary Ann McLaren, Mary Ann Clark, Mary Sutherland, Mary Ann Speirs and Catherine Morrison were convicted of robbery - 10 January 1838 in a house at North Fowlis Close, assault Robert McGill, cotton-spinner from Glasgow and rob him of a £1 note and 15/- silver. The victim McGill had come to Edinburgh as one of the witnesses in the Cotton-Spinners trial.
