On 14th July,1841, William Stanbury received a conditional pardon No 3097, never to return to England. He left Van Diemen's Land from Launceston in 1846 on "The Julia" arriving in Adelaide on Tuesday, 14th April. He took up land in the Kenton valley area and was eventually joined there by his daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Richard Sandercock. .

William was recommended for a Free Pardon in an application dated 17th December, 1844. It was granted on the 2nd December, 1845, on the condition that he never return "to Europe". On 2nd May, 1846, he boarded the brig "Julia" to cross to South Australia. He took up land and led a blameless life from then on.

Death Certificate shows cause of death as 'Visiation of God'. Place of burial unknown.
