On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. Matthew Stark, Kingston upon Hull, mariner, charged upon the oath of Ann Marshall, with feloniously assaulting her on the King's highway on the inst. at Sutton, in the East Riding, and taking from her person one shilling, one halfpenny, and one cup, her property. Yorkshire Gazette, 13 Jan 1821. MATTHEW STARK, was tried and convicted of robbing Ann Marshall, (who goes about selling caps) the King's highway, between Sutton and Hull, Is. 3d. and cap. The prisoner had stick in one hand and knife in the other, but he used no violence or threat.—The Jury pronounced a verdict of GUILTY. Yorkshire Gazette, 24 Mar 1821. Monday morning the following convicts left York castle, in order delivered on board the Laurel hulk, lying up the river below Portsmouth: William Mortimer, James Pearson. John Thomas Smith, Samuel Smith, Job Leach, alias Kershaw, Samuel Gatehouse, John Ogden, David Frudd, John Mountain, Thomas Smith, Matthew Stark, John Noblet, and James Lumby, to be severally transported during the term of their natural lives: ...
