1828, September: Arrived at Moreton Bay per Borodino; age 21 (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013, Moreton Bay Convict Runaways database). 1829, 21 January: Ran away from Moreton Bay; returned on 25 March 1829 – absconded for 55 days (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013, Moreton Bay Convict Runaways database). 1831, 3 September: Ran away again and this time remained at large (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013, Moreton Bay Convict Runaways database).


1828: On arrival in NSW, Samuel STEEMSON, 20, Protestant, single, a native of Derbyshire, could read but not write. He was a farmer’s man and ploughman and had been convicted for stealing clothes. This entry says he had no previous convictions. Described as 5’5” tall with a ruddy fair complexion, fair hair and hazel eyes. He was assigned to Robert Townsend at Bunbury (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Bound Indentures 1827). 1828, 19 May: Listed as a runaway: STEVENSON Samuel or STEEMSON, No. 545, Albion, 21, Ploughman, Derbyshire, 5 feet 5, hazel eyes, fair hair, ruddy comp. from No. 10 Iron Gang (see Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, p 4; Classified Advertising). 1828, 9 July: Convicted Liverpool General Sessions for being a runaway from No 10 Chain Gang and sentenced to three years (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013, Moreton Bay Convict Runaways database).


1825, April: Samuel STEMSON – convicted at the April Sessions at Nottingham for larceny and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment (see England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892; England, Nottinghamshire 1825). 1825, 20 October: Samuel STEEMSON – convicted at Nottingham Quarter Sessions for larceny (stealing clothes), 7 years; ploughman (see England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892; England, Nottinghamshire 1825).
