William Storey was transported on the Henry Porcher, departing 5th Aug 1825 and arriving 3rd Dec 1825 with 176 passengers.
1825 Journey. On Saturday morning (3 Dec) arrived from London and Dublin, the ship Henry Porcher, Captain John Thompson, with 175 male prisoners, having lost one man - the rest in good health. She sailed from London the 10th of July, and Dublin the 5th of August. The guard comprises a detachment of the 47th Regiment, under the orders of Captain Donaldson. The Surgeon Superintendent is Dr. CARTER, R. N. Sydney Gazette, 5 Dec 1825.

1838. 30th Jan. … Three desperate characters WILLIAM STOREY, MICHAEL BYRNE and HUGH HUGHES absented from their work at Red Banks and took to the bush. They were immediately pursued by Constables and overtaken on Drummonds Flat. A desperate fight ensued in which two of the Constables were wounded and one of the absentees WILLIAM STOREY killed on the spot. The others were secured and lodged in Gaol. They were tried and received 300 lashes each and sentenced to 12 months in Gaol for security. 1827, 5 December: He absconded from Moreton Bay but was returned there on 6 January 1829. He was at large for 398 days, which would become his longest absence from Moreton Bay until his fifth attempt at freedom (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013, Moreton Bay Convict Movements). 1829, 16 February: This time he was at large for 9 days. He was returned to Moreton Bay on 25 February 1829. 1830, 24 January: His next escape lasted 20 days. He was returned on 13 February 1830. 1831, 25 November: Another escape – this time for 5 days. He was returned to Moreton Bay on 30 November 1831. 1833, 23 May: He absconded for a fifth and final time (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013). 1833, 28 June: He was only at large for a month before being imprisoned (again) on the Phoenix Hulk. His record reads: “William STORY, Hy Porcher 1826 [year is incorrect], bond, Catholic, labourer; admitted from the cutter ‘Fairy’ as a runaway from Moreton Bay” (see NSW Convict Records, 1810-1891; Phoenix Hulk: Entrance Books, 1831-1833). 1833, 1 July: William STOREY was discharged from the Phoenix Hulk and sent to Norfolk Island, where he died in hospital on 9 January 1838 (see NSW Convict Records, 1810-1891; Phoenix Hulk: Entrance Books, 1831-1833).


1825: On arrival William STOREY, 17, was 5’5½”, with a brown complexion, chestnut hair and brown eyes. He was described as being “very well” physically and was assigned to the Convicts’ Store at Parramatta (see NSW Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Bound Indentures 1823-1826). 1827, 21 September: William STORY [STOREY], per Henry Porcher, labourer, was admitted to the Phoenix Hulk, charged with burglary (see NSW Convict Records, 1810-1891; Phoenix Hulk: Entrance Books, 1825-1831). 1827, 11 October: William STOREY was discharged from the Phoenix Hulk for transportation per the brig “Governor Phillip” to Moreton Bay (see NSW Convict Records, 1810-1891; Phoenix Hulk: Discharge Book, 1825-1830). 1827, 20 October: William STORY [STOREY], 19, labourer, arrived at Moreton Bay to start his sentence of 14 years and hard labour (commuted from the death sentence by the Criminal Court, Sydney) for burglary. He arrived per the “Governor Phillip”. Shortly after, he made the first of many escapes from the penal settlement.




William was 17 years old on arrival and was transported for "wearing apparel". Colonial Secretary Papers: STOREY, William. Per "Henry Porcher", 1825 1825 Dec 9: On list of convicts landed from the "Henry Porcher" and forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6016; 4/3516 p.104) 30/8/1827 The Monitor, Sydney: Judgment of the Court upon William Storey and James Halpin, for a burglary, and robbery in the dwelling house of William' Knight at Parramatta. Death Recorded. James Halpin arrived on the Asia 1824 and he died at Moreton Bay on 31/3/1835. 9/1/1838: William died at the Norfolk Island Hospital.
