Convict Indentures state that Ellen Sullivan was 20 years. She could neither read or write; Religion Roman Catholic; status Single; native of County Cork and trade is kitchen maid. Tried for stealing a handkerchief at Cork City on 17 August 1838. Sentenced to 7 years and had two prior convictions and served one month sentences. Physical attributes: Height 4 feet 8 1/4 inches; complexion brown freckled and a little pock pitted; Hair brown and grey eyes. Prisoner number 432-39 Transport number 96. Obtained Certificate of Freedom 46/678.
Government Gazette of 13 November 1839 states that Ellen Sullivan had been apprehended during the previous week. She had escaped from Mr John Bates, Surry Hills.
