National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/5/55 1836 Jan Prisoner name: Joseph Taylor. Prisoner age: 53. Prisoner occupation: Master butcher. Court and date of trial: Jamaica, 5 October 1835. Crime: Cattle stealing. Initial sentence: Transportation for life. Annotated: Nil. Petitioner(s): The prisoner. Grounds for clemency: The prisoner has six small children and a wife who are dependent on him; the jury was not impartial; he had given evidence against a Thomas Parker for murdering his brother and this man has engineered the case against him; he has always been considered a respectable and honest person. Additional Information: Prisoner held on board the York hulk. Erysipelas -This is an intense red rash which develops on the face, arms and legs which is caused by the streptococcus A bacteria.
