January 13th 1850 Bury and Norwich Post: James Theobald of Gt Waldingfield pleaded guilty to having on Oct 31st broken into a barn at Lavenham and stolen therefrom 6 bushels of wheat the property of Mrs Sarah Miles. 7 years transportation. James Theobald was 44 years old on arrival in VDL, he could read and write, was 5’11” tall, sallow complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, dark eyes, bald on top of his head. James was born a Gt Waldingfield, Suffolk and was the son of Joshua Theobald and Sarah Pottle. James was married C1830 to Clarissa Holder and they had 6 children. Clarissa died in April 1891 at Gt Waldingfield, Suffolk. 22/11/1853: TOL 13/3/1855: CP 18721872: Married Mary Ann Wood (she was 45 years old). 7/11/1876: James died at Launceston, Tasmania aged 77 – he was listed as a Labourer.
