Orelia set sail from ?? Launceston/Port Dalrymple? for the Swan River Colony WA Fri 31 Jul 1829 arriving 11 Oct 1829. On the 1823 Convict Muster HO 10/45:page 53 of 123 it has mention of Joseph James. Was this Thomas Thurkle's employer?

Thomas Thurkle (Thirkill) sailed from the Derwent River Tasmania on the 'Orelia' arriving in Fremantle WA 11th Oct 1829. He was listed as a married labourer. On 11th June 1832 he maried Elizabeth Pettit (a 1829 arrival per 'Gilmore'). A daughter Katherine, born Busselton 1837, later married (1853) Charles Donat Keyser an American who was a pioneer the timber industry in the SW of WA. Katherine and Charles had 15 children. Many South West and Great Southern West Aussie families are decendents of 'Thirkill' who used the Thurkle name in WA. Thomas Thurkle was an early settler at Newtown (now Vasse). The Thurkle family have been neighbours of my family since 1906 when my grandparents purchased 'Westbrook'. The Thurkle property was last occupied by Charles Thurkle (unmarried)until his death (circa 2009). As a bricklayer I believe Thomas Thurkle to be involved in the construction of Elijah Dawson's 'Westbrook' homestead (circa 1850) during which Keyser was also a carpenter. Keyser may have met Katherine at this time. I am not related to the Thurkle family; I discovered this info while researching Keyser's role in the Southern West Australian timber industry. Thomas Thurkle died 1855 at York WA.
