The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Victoria BMD Death of Anne Thistleton, 1878, age 63.Spouse at death, Edward Thistleton. Parents, Mary and Patrick Delaney. Born Ireland. Death of Edward Thistleton, age 80, 1880. Spouse at death, Annie Delaney. Children include: Sarah Anne Thistleton, who married James Evan, in 1862. (James was an Executor named to Edward’s will) George Thistleton, married Margaret Toohey, in 1869. Edward Thistleton, married Margaret McElroy, in 1869. MR. EDWARD THISTLETON. Very much regret was expressed on Wednesday morning when it became known that Mr. Edward Thlstleton had expired after a short illness the previous evening at his residence, Benalla West. The cause of death was cerebral apoplexy. Deceased, who was of a kindly and unassuming nature, was one of the oldest and most respected residents of this district. He was a native of the Plenty district, and with his father, the late Mr. Edward Thistleton, came to this district between forty and fifty years ago. He was married at Mansfield to Miss M'Elroy in 1870 and leaves a family of six daughters and four sons, for whom much sympathy is felt. About four years ago deceased was appointed herdsman for the Central riding. For many years he carried on farming pursuits near Baddaginnie, but about ten years ago he retired and came into the town. The remains were interred in the Benalla Cemetery yesterday, and there was a large attendance of mourners and friends. Benalla Standard, 3 Sep 1915.




NOTICE is hereby given, that after the expiration of fourteen days from the publication hereof application will be made to the Supreme Court of the colony of Victoria, in its Probate Jurisdiction that PROBATE of the WILL of EDWARD THISTLETON, late of Baddaginnie, in the colony of Victoria, farmer, deceased, may be granted to Evan James, farmer, and Thomas Sullivan, both of Benalla, in the said colony, the executors named in and appointed by the said will. Dated this twenty first day of June, 1880 DAVIES and STRONGMAN, 6 Collins street west, Melbourne, proctors for the said executors. The Argus, Melbourne, VIC. 21 June 1880

George’s Ticket of Leave was issued on 22 Jul 1831, however George had to remain in the Camden area of NSW. His Certificate of Freedom was issued on 13 Jul 1838. George married Anne Delaney in 23 Jan 1842 in Melbourne, and they had 3 children. George died on 26 April 1880 in Benalla, Victoria.
