Indents, Early Convict Ships Indian William Thorpe, Tried Warwick Assizes, 26 March 1804, Life. ----------------------------------------------------------------- At the Warwick assizes, William Thorpe indicted on Lord Ellenborough's Act, for maliciously cutting and wounding Charles Butwell, a watchman; and after a trial which lasted several hours he was found guilty--Death. St James Chronicle, 5 April 1804. and W. Thorpe, indicted under Lord Ellenborough’s Act for maliciously cutting and wounding Charles Butwell, a watchman appointed by the Commissioners of the Birmingham Street Acts, who attempted to take him as he was coming into this town with a cart, containing a quantity of calico stolen from Messrs. Wilks and Jewsbury, of Mealham. [The Commissioners of the Street Acts, - we understand, are determined to prosecute all persons guilty of molesting their watchmen, or other servants, when on duty.] Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 2 Apr 1804.
